| It
takes time for me to get the flavour of a place and in that
time I let it all filter through me, and then come up with a
painting. And with Tuscany and Umbria, it was clear that this
meant burnt, umber landscapes under a hot Italian sun. I did
experience that incredible intensity of the warmth of the sun
and the landscape on my visit, but also had a few days of torrential
downpours which meant adjusting the planned route of the tour.
This resulted in an opportunity to explore some of the hilltop
towns and small cities, some of which I might never have seen.
It is these enchanting places that I have really enjoyed painting,
and which then became the focus of what was a very memorable
trip. |
