"As ever, I find that getting started is the hardest part of creating a new body of work, but the more I paint, the more freely ideas flow and the more I feel that I can relax into the process. As I paint, everything else gets held at bay and only the painting matters; I am completely 'there' and in the moment, and the challenges of day to day life simply melt away."

Amanda Hoskin / Colours, Coast and Sea llI

"My choice of subject for this collection has been purely and simply dictated by the emotional draw I have felt to the particular places that I arrived at on my journey and this in turn has been determined by a love of the landscape and particular quality of the light. The sweeping form of the headland at Kynance combined with the misty light; the shape of a hedge in the landscape; the brooding evening skies in Mounts Bay or across Falmouth Bay to St. Anthony are all deeply inspiring to me."

Amanda Hoskin / Colours, Coast and Sea ll

A full colour 36 page book of selected paintings from Amanda Hoskin's 2008 exhibition "Colours, Coast and Sea ll" is available through the gallery. This is the second collection of work from Amanda's ongoing coastal walk. This section of the journey starts from St Agnes and ends at Cape Cornwall.

"Painting is very much a necessity for me, even when I'm not physically painting I am persistantly painting in my mind. I am inspired by the landscape continually and even day-to-day events like taking my daughter to school, provide me with renewed connections and starting points for paintings. My drive is the recreation of moments in a way that has meaning. Through these works I can be less solitary, sharing something of myself in a visual and emotional way that portrays the landscape that involves us all - through experience, memory and emotion - a process that I love and cannot be without."

Amanda Hoskin / Colours, Coast and Sea l

A full colour 36 page book of selected paintings from Amanda Hoskin's 2007 exhibition "Colours, Coast and Sea l" is available through the gallery.

"This show is the start of a long-term project for me - walking the Cornish Coast. I decided to do 100 miles for each section and each show. For me it is a way to see new areas of Cornwall that I haven't visited or painted before. Starting at Bude and finishing this part of the walk at Padstow, this is an area I know very little about. It is a challenging stretch of the coast, very wild with steep rugged cliffs, dramatic skies and sweeping white sands of the Camel Estuary."

Neil Pinkett / Waterfront

A full colour 36 page book of selected paintings from Neil Pinkett's 2008 exhibition "Waterfront" is available through the gallery.

"Working in Newlyn, you cannot help but be affected by the masculine, slightly dangerous feeling of a working port. This has influenced my work significantly, as I have become increasingly engaged in the working life of the people amongst whom I too live and work. My focus has been intensified by the prevailing sense of change in Cornwall's working ports, which may soon obliterate an entire way of life. This collection then reflects an urgent need to record working life as it is today, has been for centuries, and could soon be no more."

Andrew Tozer / Close to Home

A full colour 36 page book of selected paintings from Andrew Tozer's 2008 exhibition "Close to Home" is available through the gallery.

"These works represent an artist's year in Falmouth, from the quietness of out-of-season and the bleakness of a February afternoon, to the intense colour and light of high summer beaches. In painting Falmouth anew, my work has developed and I consider this collection to be a step forward for me as a painter. I have enjoyed feeling slightly on the edge, taking traditional views and treating them differently. Even now I feel that I have only begun to scratch the surface of the immense visual experience that is Falmouth for me."

Richard Tuff / A Sense of Place

A full colour 36 page book of selected paintings from Richard Tuff''s 2009 exhibition "A Sense of Place" is available through the gallery.

"Throughout this time I have been drawn back to particular places again and again for different reasons. Some places have connections to my family life- where we might often go for walks or days out, some places because of the memories that they hold and some places because I know that they make for a fantastic painting. When I work back in the studio my paintings become a diffusion of these memories and connections alongside the physicality of the actual paint on the paper - the patterns, colours, shapes and rhythms that occur."
