When
a painting goes well, I get to the end and wonder 'how on earth
did I do that?'. It is this state of 'flow' that inevitably
results in my best work and makes me feel as if I have been
visited by the 'painting fairy'. Sometimes, though, despite
days of work, paintings simply refuse to come together and I
just choose to paint over them. The new work in its place might
be completely different, but it is as if it carries the credit
from its predecessor in terms of surface and texture - and is
usually even better for it.
