The
influence of the Impressionist movement on contemporary painting
cannot be underestimated; indeed, it is arguable that few
artists practising now are not informed by its legacy.
The
modern principles of painting that we take for granted were
ground-breaking and revolutionary when introduced to Britain
in the nineteenth century, and they continue stimulate and
inspire artists even today.
In
recognition of this, Beside The Wave's "Contemporary
Impressionism" exhibition celebrates the impact of impressionism
on contemporary landscape art.
The
exhibition runs concurrently with Falmouth Art Gallery's "British
Impressionists" and comprises five individual shows,
each of which explores the continued influence of impressionism
on modern-day landscape art in Cornwall.
