Beside The
Wave are delighted to inform you about an exciting new exhibition
that we are opening this Spring at our Cornish Gallery in Falmouth.
This show is a collaboration of three artists: painters Sarah
Bowman and Elaine Pamphilon and potter Paul Jackson.
Sarah Bowman
is already well established at the gallery and is one of our main
group of artists. Her sensitive still lifes are easily recognisable
with their unique palette and subjects. Sarah concentrates on
a subdued range of hues built up in carefully applied layers to
create a wonderful array of beautiful textures. She uses objects
of personal value including favourite ceramics and fabrics with
seasonal fruit and flowers that inspire her from home. Her combinations
of seascape and landscape viewed through windows with selected
treasures continue to inspire collectors and bring delight. For
this show Sarah has introduced new work with bolder compositions
and a higher contrast of tones which brings a dramatic new edge
to her oils.

Beside The
Wave feel privileged to be showing the paintings of Elaine Pamphilon.
Elaine is an internationally recognised artist who has gained
great prominence through publications. She is regularly shown
in London galleries and her work is highly sought after by fine
art collectors. Elaine divides her time between her home in Cambridge
and her house in St Ives, overlooking the sea. Elaine's inspiration
is taken from her day to day observations, like watching birds
feeding on the lawn outside her window or sitting on the slate
step outside her Cornish home watching the waves in the harbour.
Elaine's work is currently developing in a looser and freer way
having been influenced by the relaxed atmosphere of Cornwall.
However her work still retains a vibrancy and strength that we
have come to associate so strongly with her.

Cornwall's
leading and highly talented potter Paul Jackson will be showing
a collection of new pots. Paul produces hand thrown pieces that
are often twisted and reformed. His decorative skills are plentiful
and he draws on diverse subject matter from the nude form, to
seaside influences. This promises to be an exciting collection
and a wonderful accompaniment with the two painters.
