Walking the
Cornish Coastal Path - from Bude to Padstow.
The first
of an exclusive series of one woman shows at Falmouth's Beside
The Wave gallery are due to begin this March. Amanda Hoskin has
set herself a fascinating project that will last for several years
and culminate in a unique show each Spring at the gallery. Starting
at Bude on the North Cornish coast she will walk the entire Cornish
Coastal Path in approximately 100 mile stretches. Each section
of the walk will provide the inspiration and subject matter for
a new series of paintings that will be shown in a one woman exhibition
and documented in a dedicated book which will also serve as the
exhibition catalogue.
This new project
has filled Amanda with fresh enthusiasm for the County she loves.
It has encouraged her to look with fresh eyes and renewed energy,
to tackle new vistas and hitherto untackled scenes. These new
collections are not intended as a day to day diary account or
to catalogue each mile of her journey, but concentrate on specific
places or views that have been of particular interest to her.
These locations can sometimes be just a cliff top view of distant
sea and sky or distinctive geographical locations of beaches,
estuaries and harbours.

For this first
section of her long term project, Amanda has walked from Bude,
westwards to just the other side of Padstow. This is unknown territory
for her, as she has always lived on the south coast of Cornwall.
In response to this new stretch of coast Amanda's paintings have
taken a new path and emanate a freshness and vitality with clean
clear hues and a wonderful clarity of pure coastal light. Calm
tones in a myriad of blues in her interpretation of sea and sky
are accompanied by soft touches of warmer pinks and ochres in
cliff top grasses and long sandy beaches.
Topographically,
she was attracted to several important landmarks along her way.
The drama of the coast at the rocky outcrop known as the Strangles
near Boscastle, the amazing skies at Polzeath and the coast at
Harland Bay, to mention just a few.

Having completed
her initial walk, in 8-9 mile stages and sketched in her notebook
along the way, Amanda was eager to return to some key places to
work again. This time working in situ with watercolours, capturing
a different season and new light conditions. Her triumph in capturing
the sun as it set over Padstow was a personal accomplishment that
she achieved when doing this. Some of these water colours will
be available for sale at the exhibition.

White Sands, Rock

This is an
exciting project for both artist and gallery and secures a relationship
that will be of benefit to Amanda's collectors for several years
to come. The opening of this forthcoming show will be eagerly
awaited by Amanda's followers and the gallery anticipates an overwhelming
response.
All of the
paintings from the exhibition will be available on the gallery
website from 6pm on Friday 23rd March to coincide with the opening
of the private view. A full colour catalogue of the paintings
from the show will also be available by request.
