Beside
the Wave gallery is delighted to announce an exclusive collection
of new work by one of the gallery's most collected artists,
Ted Dyer.
Ted
has unveiled a deeply personal special collection of paintings
exploring and revisiting areas of the landscape that have
inspired his career as one of Britain's best loved artists
spanning over 40 years.
He
sees this collection as a melding of past and present, reminiscing,
revisiting, and reviewing significant scenes and ideas from
his life and work as an artist, combining them with a new
and fresh perspective.
He
has been drawn to recapture some of his favourite views around
Falmouth and the Helford River. The composition 'Old Bishops
Quay, Helford River' captures the timelessness of this picturesque
stretch of water. Stone boat sheds from a bygone era nestle
on the river bank. The glistening river bed revealed by the
receding tide reflects the warm blue of a Summer sky. The
tranquility of this unspoilt creek can be felt in the rustling
grass and softly swaying trees. The rusting red shed roof
lit by the hot sun, is set against the cool green shade. The
eye is drawn along the snaking line of the river which leads
to the rolling countryside beyond making the viewer feel immersed
in the place.
The
grandeur of Falmouth's sea front has captured artists imaginations
for years and has been a source of much inspiration for Ted.
He returns to the area now re-energised by fresh location
work, sketching and painting in situ, capturing the bay and
its beaches, Pendennis and St Mawes castles, the water alive
with darting white sails; all things that are quintessentially
Falmouth. Ted has been working at different times of day to
capture the ever changing nuances of light and it's effect
on our unique landscape.
In
a stunning piece, 'Warm Evening Light, Castle Beach' Ted employs
his unparalleled eye for colour and beautifully evokes the
gentle light from the setting sun glancing from the surface
of the tranquil turquoise sea as it laps at the shore of Castle
Beach. The distant headlands are softened by the hazy sky.
This iconic view of Falmouth is perfectly depicted at the
end of a late summers day.
Also
included in the collection are some rarer paintings depicting
the countryside of Somerset. Ted has revisited the landscape
of his past having been born in Bristol and spending much
of his youth in Devon and Somerset. His early years as an
artist were inspired by these surroundings and he pays tribute
to them with beautiful impressions of idyllic scenes. Reminiscent
of the Romanticism of Constable the finely painted 'A Day
in the Country' evokes time stood still. Deep cool water feeds
the lush pastures for grazing cattle. An elm tree dominates
the scene, reaching up to brush the cloud dappled sky.
Capturing
a different aspect of the same area, 'Country Cottage' is
an utterly charming painting. Rendered in a warm palette of
golden ochres and rich leaf greens the composition reveals
a glimpse of a stone cottage almost hidden by the surrounding
trees under a warm apricot sky. The delicately rendered foreground
of wheat coloured grasses is a typical example of Ted's sensitive
brushwork and mark making.
It
is the artist's pleasure and prerogative to edit a view to
convey the essential essence of the place that has captured
them. Utilising his inimitable talent Ted imbues his work
with his optimism and love for life and painting.
This
special collection will be available to view online at www.beside-the-wave.co.uk
