Andrew Knee lives and works in South London producing a range of functional stoneware items and alongside larger individual pieces. He is currently fascinated with ‘ tsubo’ ; thrown jars either made in one piece or, for the larger sizes, thrown in two pieces and joined.

Pots are splashed and poured or daubed with oxides, engobes and silica carbide to create textures and surfaces which are unpredictable and unique- the finishes suggest water, rock, ice, metal.

In the 1980’s Andrew spent 5 years in Shizuoka, Japan. Writing and travelling and spending most weekends training and working with a local potter, he developed a deep respect for Japanese craftsmanship and its close relationship with the natural world.
