Johnty is an award-winning, classically trained contemporary artist based in Falmouth. His work blends time-honoured techniques with a fresh, sensitive approach to everyday life in Cornwall. Before relocating to Falmouth, he taught at the London Fine Art Studios Atelier and was twice awarded a scholarship from the De Lazslo Foundation.

Johnty draws inspiration from the natural world, the quiet rhythms of Cornish life, and the overlooked beauty in ordinary objects. He often explores local charity shops in search of discarded or forgotten items—objects that carry a sense of history and character, and which become rich subjects for his still life paintings. His artistic influences range from the atmosphere and sensitivity of the Impressionists, particularly Monet, to the refined still lifes of Hovsep Pushman and Emil Carlsen.

Much of Johnty’s work is painted from life, particularly plein air landscapes and still lifes, driven by a fascination with light’s ever-changing qualities and the quiet decay of natural matter. These shifting conditions demand a responsive approach, bringing a sense of freshness and immediacy to his paintings.
