Andrew Tozer: Belonging

“I started exhibiting with Beside The Wave 25 years ago. Hard to believe that it has been that long, but that is the fact. Since I started, I looked to hone my skills to be able to make pictures in the same way as some of the great artists of the past that have been attracted to Cornwall such as Whistler, Sickert, Anders Zorn, John Park and John Hayley Lever to name but a few. Being outside in nature, drawing and painting and recording our amazing Cornish landscape has been the ongoing pursuit for those years and a principal source of enjoyment for myself as an artist. I love playing with different methods and materials to achieve my aims in terms of making paintings- it’s something that keeps things fresh and alive. So whether I am working in the studio or in the open air or with oils or acrylics, I am constantly learning new things and enriching my process and being excited by my work. Over the time I have found that certain places  really resonate with me; Falmouth, The Helford River, St Ives, Godrevey and the Roseland Peninsula. The quality of the light and the landscape of these places is beautiful and uplifting and continues to provide endless and continuing inspiration.
