Beside The Wave
A major exhibition of new paintings showcasing collected artist Andrew Tozer's distinguished viewpoint as a diarist within his work, "recording the moments and scenes that are important to me and sharing my joy in them with the viewer."
Split between both of our galleries, the paintings shown in Cornwall will celebrate the well-known Cornish Landscape while the paintings shown in London is a smaller collection of intimate portrayals of the artist's home farm and family.
"My show this year is separated into two parts and over two galleries. The first part celebrates the wellCornish landscape: beautiful seascapes of St. Mawes; glorious harbour scenes of Mousehole and Falmouth; alongside newer locations (for me at least) such as Gweek and Godrevy. In these works, I have focused on portraying scenes that I know and love, in a way that captures and translates the beauty I experience to the viewer. My desire to paint beautiful sun drenched scenes remains strong.
"The second part contains a small collection of intimate portrayals of my home farm and of my family; the farm lane being the subject of a number of works. The wintery trees silhouetted against wintery skies or a rainbow appearing after a downpour, provide a challenging inspiration for a painting. These subjects have not been easy to paint but the rewards are great; a new level of understanding is reached along with a true sense of achievement.
"The common link between both collections is one of celebration. By this I mean that in all the works produced I have attempted to capture a special moment and share it with the viewer. In both collections, many of the works are painted 'en plein air' or as some say 'live'. This process is both immensely challenging and hugely rewarding for me as an artist, as one has to exist simultaneously in the moment one is trying to capture and in the actual painting itself ?thus creating a unique connection."
