Beside The Wave
Mount's Bay, is a large, sweeping bay on the English Channel coast of Cornwall, stretching from the Lizard Point to Gwennap Head. In the north of the bay, near Marazion, is St Michael's Mount; the origin of name of the bay. In summer, this is a large, benign, scenic, natural harbour. However, in winter, onshore gales present maritime risks, particularly for sailing ships. Home to a large concentration of old tin mines, Mounts Bay was an integral part of the mining industry in Cornwall. Thus, littered with the recognisable shafts, the Mounts Bay landscape acts as a reminder of the past and Cornwall's historic relevance. Amongst these mines lies an area of incredible beauty from the picturesque sands of Marazion to the folklore rich harbour of Mousehole and the fishing hub of Newlyn. Filled with cobbled streets and arching bays of sand and pebbles, Mounts Bay is a wonderful example of Cornish charm.
