Fuelled by immersing herself in her natural surroundings, Charlotte makes work inspired by found objects such as shells, pebbles, trees, patterns, skies. Colour, collected from the Cornish coast, is added to white stoneware clay and she uses her material as a three-dimensional tool to create almost a collage of the landscape with patterns and textures running through the pot as the structure-she doesn’t believe in surface decoration. Through long processes such as coiling and hand building, Charlotte’s thoughtfully slow techniques allow her to fully attach to each piece. It is this attachment which allows the work to feel very sensory and emphatically natural.
