“Rough black stoneware with layers of toasted stoneware and grey clay and a “garden blue” ash glaze. Based on rocks I would collect and keep in my pockets to rediscover – part of a series within this collection of stone inspired works that reflect on a meditative feeling while being by the sea. The work combines clays through the block before carving and explores the texture of rocks, staring into rock pools and the aesthetics of wet and dry rock. This piece keeps moments of imperfection that are both aesthetically pleasing and make the surface pleasing to touch – there is a dip in the rim and the interior has ripple marks from my tools.”
